Jonk’s Bargains … bit of an update

I spoke a while ago about a discovery I have made : server side includes.

It means that when I edit a menu on Jonk’s Bargains, those edits re reflected across the whole site. This saves a lot of time! It also allows for a bit of experimenting.

The site is now monetised a little bit and has so far made $US24. Which is semi-decent.

It’s getting a fairly low amount of traffic in the scheme of things (90/day) but its growing, albeit slowly.

I’m going to buy Australian hosting soon ($50/yr). Because of this I will be listed on Google.com.au and my traffic should increase a lot (there’s a lot less keyword competition on the Australian version.. as should be obvious.)

If you don’t care about being listed on Australia (or if you own a .com.au domain name) I have heard (courtesy JonLee.ca) of some VERY cheap web-hosting. Pay for what you use! If Jonk’s Bargains was hosted on this, at the current levels I’d pay maybe $1-2 a year. A YEAR. That’s because my site is nearly 100% text.

Hi Mat!

I have actually reviewed NearlyFreeSpeech.net before on my other blog:

It is very good for low traffic sites. It is also very good for high traffic sites if you are willing to pay for it — and it has pre-payment options that give you lots of up-front savings. Because it is not “oversold” like MediaTemple or DreamHost, you know that your neighbours are not hogging the bandwidth. My experience with them has been superb.

However as you stated — you’ll need an Australian hosting for a .com domain, if you want to be recognised as an Australian site in Google. Who will you be hosting with?
