New Knowledge

I’ve had a few website ideas in the past couple of months that haven’t gone anywhere due to a lack of knowledge : PHP be to be exact.

Learning programming languages is reasonably tedious but if you have free time and a goal in mind, it’s a good thing to do. And I know it will save me money in the long run.

Previously, I have paid people to put very simple fixes through. With only a little bit of knowledge this could have been done at only the cost of my time.

Forza new knowledge!

I’m up to lesson 5 of a tutorial series by a guy called Vikram Vaswani located here - http://devzone.zend.com/node/view/id/636. The only problem is that he doesn’t provide you with any “homework” to do so while I understand it, I am a very long distance away from programming in PHP.

It’ll be worth it, I have a great idea (in my opinion) that is worth putting up on the web.

RateGenius.com is a pretty cool website for those people being pounded on car repayments.

Vehicle Refinance is their specialty, and they offer a marketplace where car owners can be matched to lenders who fulfill their specific needs.

On average, they claim to reduce their clients loans by 3.81% p.a. which is a significant amount in anyone’s books.

American readers should at least give this a once over. There’s a toll free number which can be used as well.

So, I was with a bunch of guys from church yesterday, and someone asked me what I was thinking about.

“Politics.”

He then said to me “if you love politics so much, why don’t you get into it? I’d vote for you!”

I told him that he most likely wouldn’t vote for me once he knew what my beliefs were.

I’ve come around to libertarianism. This is a belief system that has a very strong focus on human rights, but only human rights (as opposed to special interest rights such as the rights of the employee). It recognises that Government does far more harm than good, and should only exist and act where absolutely necessary.

The idea of freedom for everyone is anathema to most Christians when it is spelled out to them. Most people love the idea of being able to control someone else’s life through legislation but hate the idea of it happening to them.

In fairness, we should only be using legislation to protect the rights of others, not to deny their choices.
