The PM

Every time I see the news headlines where it says “PM” I think it’s talking about John Howard and my heart leaps a little bit.

Then I realise it’s talking about Kevin Rudd and I come down a notch.

It’s kind of like missing your ex. And you have a dream with her in it. And you wake up thinking you’re with your ex still. But then you realise you’re not. And you come down a notch.

Then I think, while I’m not Kevin Rudd’s biggest fan, I’m still surprised that we let Howard stay PM for so long. I mean, could you imagine him being PM now?

And it kind of reminds me of how, you might have an ex and you shared some good times, the reason she’s an ex was because those good times didn’t quite make up for the crappy times.

Change can be good sometimes.

NB. No, I haven’t broken up with my current girlfriend and no I didn’t wake up today missing my ex.

A Jonk’s update

Well everyone knows how I love to write updates about Jonk’s Bargains.

Given that it’s Christmas time everyone seems to be searching for bargains so I got 62 visitors from Google yesterday… I’m now #4, Scotty is above me which reflects the fact that his site is, well.. better.

The fun about managing a website is two-fold - firstly, it’s cool to analyse the stats. You can look at where everyone is coming from, what they’re doing. You can see how much time people spend on your site. For example, people searching for “unblock hotmail” spend 11:35 on my site. Those searching for make money online have averaged over 20 minutes. Obviously, I have picked examples that make me look good.

Bounce rate is a pretty key stat. If someone gets to your site and clicks back within… 60 seconds I think it is, without doing anything, the stats software records this as a ‘bounce.’ I’ve dropped this by 15% but it still seems high to me. So I won’t say exactly what it is. ;)

In the past month, people have found my site through search engines using 397 different key-words. 3-9-7. Unfortunately a lot of the ‘long-tail’ search terms such as “2nd hand furniture on the gold coast” have 100% bounce rate because my site cannot help them.

For those thinking of building a website, a lot of people come to Jonk’s through furniture related terms. So maybe there’s a market there. :)

If the people around you were dependent on your words for nourishment, would they die of malnourishment?
