Park West Gallery

Just Married - Shlomo Alter.

Park West Gallery is a fine art auctioneer which conducts auctions throughout the United States and Canada.

Garden Of Many Treasurers - Berkow

The website needs a featured artist section to show off their best work, as all the names are pretty much meaningless to me.

Big Love IX - Simon Bull

It seems like this dude is trying to land himself the distinction of an iconic, lasting image, painting all sorts of hearts with American flags and whatnot.

La Joie de Vives - Littorio Del Signore

I thought this was a nice one. The images presented on the website seem to have had some difficulty in faithfully rendering pieces though, as nearly all have a sort of luminous quality to the colour which I have never seen in art in real life.

At The Theater - Hua Chen

This is one of my favourites from the random browsing I did. I can’t analyse it but I like what the artist did, these brute strokes and bold colour contrasting with the delicate, feminine features of the subject.

Hua Chen is a Chinese name and there are a few on the list. There’s a lot of French and Italian names, but what stood out to me is the number of Japanese artists listed.

Lost In Reflection - Hua Chen

This is a different type of piece by the same artist. I like these two paintings but not so much the other ones by the artist.

Taking A Nap - Hua Chen

This one is typical of the paintings by Hua Chen. I don’t really like the dull nature of the colour or the brush strokes.

The gallery is located in Michigan and basically all pieces are at least $1500. (So much money… :( )

I really liked a lot of the paintings. I have read that investing in paintings is a combination of research - the artist, how to recognise good art - and eye. As in, buy it if it you like it! Because there’s a chance other people may do which will help its value.

This fruit pictured above is known as Gâc. (Just for a bit of muscle flexing, I thought the name would be Vietnamese, and yep, it was.)

Gâc is famous in some parts of the world for its medicinal qualities such as skin moisturisation and very interestingly, it has a protein which is thought to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Hmm.

R.G. Skin Revitalizer have leapt all over this - any fruit with an exotic name is bound to wind up in a product for skin or hair in the West, it seems - to launch their RedGac pills.

I didn’t know you could revitalise your skin by taking pills but it makes sense in a way - after all, you are what you eat.

Over to the design, it’s reasonably good if not a little disorganised. It’s clean, which helps, and structured in such a fashion as to make it easy to read the information through.

Actually, it’s quite convincing and backed up by other sources around the internet, which makes me want to buy some of these pills. Shame I don’t live in the good ol’ US of A then.

The thing that makes Gâc’s health qualities different from other fruits is the digestible nature of its nutrients. We miss out on a lot of the nutritional value from other fruits because the nutrients are most effective when bound to fatty acids, which the fruits incidentally don’t have.

Gâc has these acids. Given all this I’d like to try the fruit, even if I can’t take one of their funky looking pills.

RIP John Ilhan

John Ilhan dead

Probably the biggest news in my state yesterday was the news that phone sales magnate John Ilhan is dead. This guy is something of a legend for going from nothing to $300m by the age of 42 just by selling mobile phones.

I have always admired John in a way, but never aspired to be like him. I thought he worked too hard, but then I read this:

“”He was playing lots of golf, he’d been away with his family on a few holidays the last few months and he was very comfortable with the way things were going,” said his company’s managing director, Brendan Fleiter”

Hmm. So what undid him then? It could still have been hard work, it may have been something else.

There’s many people richer than he was who will die anonymously. Ilhan’s energy and his desire to put back into the community is one that puts him head and shoulders above the rest.

Rest in Peace.
