In July 2004 I was actively involved in politics. I was a member of the Liberal Party and on a cold night in winter, headed out to a meeting.

I picked up a teenager - John - who was interested in politics also and headed to the meeting. He told me about himself on the way there, how he had managed to come from nowhere to win the vote to gain captaincy of his school. About the event that he was organising for the Year 12 group of his day, the highlight of which would be a comedy gig by one of Australia’s most famous comedians.

In short, he had potential.

When we drove home though, I made a stupid decision. I decided to turn against a no-right-hand turn sign. Seconds later we heard the squeal of a car heading straight towards us. There was nothing we could do but watch. The vehicle slammed into us, spinning my car out and onto the other side of the road.

Remarkably, both of us were unharmed. The car had hit exactly where John was sitting, and he nursed his arm where it had been hit by the dent from the impact. The next day I called him to make sure he was ok, and he told me that yes, he was, he was.

A month or two went by and I forgot about him. Then I received a call : John had flipped out about 2 weeks after the crash. He had quit his captaincy, quit school, quit his job and even quit his home. He was vagabonding somewhere in Melbourne.

For a very long time, I wondered if it was my fault! I felt guilty for only just making the cursory call the day after the crash. What if his problems resulted from some sort of post-accident trauma?

It turned out that it was due to something else. Thank God. But please don’t be as foolish like I was!

Fortunately I was fully insured. Financially it actually worked out a lot better that I had wrecked my car! Although I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone - having a crash, that is.

If you aren’t already insured, make sure you check out some auto insurance plans.
I would have been down about $20k without insurance, as the other drivers car was a total write-off.

Rhinoplasty!

I honestly hadn’t thought of this before today but there’s an actual name for nose jobs. I was cruising around the internet and bumped a link to this website for Miami rhinoplasty. Looking at some of the before and after photos I couldn’t really tell the difference. It’s one of those things women are so self-conscious about. But then again I can’t talk so much, I’m planning on getting cosmetic dental surgery.

Like taking photos?

Jonk’s Bargains now has a resource for those wanting to sell photos online.. This is all part of the big website overhaul happening in preparation for moving to Australian servers, which will happen in the next few weeks.
