I have previously mentioned here the work of Michael Totten, a great blogger who goes into Iraq, gets accreditation as a journalist and is embedded with units.
Today I discovered Michael Yon.
This guy is a NUT. I was just reading an article of his - Gates of Fire - where he ends up taking a gun and joining the battle himself!
I love reading the Iraq blogs now because it gives such a different picture of what is really happening on the ground to what we see reported in the media. The bloggers form a sort of consensus - the war is being won, slowly, slowly, but it is being won. The Americans are currently experiencing success turning Iraqis against the insurgents.
Some areas are still dangerous, and the bombings continue but it appears that a nation is rising from the ashes. Just a few more years yet…

*edit* turns out that he is an ex Green Beret. So knows a thing or two about how to handle himself in a battle situation.
